Subject: A hand-book to the game-birds Vol.1
Subject: A hand-book to the game-birds Vol.1
Nice book with 21 colour plates (signed Wyman & Sons, limited), a few pen drawings (mostly skulls and sternums) and a sketch-map of the Burmese countries with the ranges of the species and races of the Kalij Pheasants (Genus Lophura, p.267). The book is founded on the autor's "Catalogue of Birds in the British Museum". This vol.1 handles the sandgrouse, partridges and pheasants from all over the world. References to major books are given; all with scientific names, their synonyms, and occurance of the species in the British Museum . The plumage of adult male and female birds, their range, habits, nest and eggs are described in detail. Sometimes also the appearance of young birds, as well as seasonal changes in plumage. An alphabetical index makes finding the right item easy.
